The best way to solve a word problem is to read it from the bottom to the top.

If you know what the question is and THEN read the information, it helps to make the problem more simple.

Once you know what the question is, then you have to determine the operation or operations.

Then you have to decide how to solve it: equations, pictures, graphs, charts, guessing, etc..
